A broken history that has torn Anishinaabe families from their sacred objects is healed through the repatriation of sacred objects, and the determination of the indigenous people to return to their traditional knowledge to carry it into the future.

THE SUBJECTS

Nicholas Deleary. Shelley Charles. Akeehsa Footman. Kenneth Lister.

Nicholas Deleary is a pipe chief dedicated to the repatriation of sacred objects.

​

Shelly Charles is an elder.

​

Akeesha Footman is a youth community advocate. All are dedicated to Anishinaabe culture.

​

Kenneth Lister is an assistant curator (ret.) at the Royal Ontario Museum.

​

They tell the stories of these sacred objects and relay the importance of repatriating these objects to the communities they come from.

Repatriation.

The continuation of Anishinaabe culture for contemporary first nations peoples is more important than ever. It is a time where people are striving to reconnect with the traditional Indigenous knowledge that is manifested through sacred objects and repatriate their traditional knowledge and traditions for future generations.
