Biskawbiyung: The Return was produced in the second-year of the Film and Television Production Advanced Diploma program at Humber College. 

SAGE PETAHTEGOOSE

DIRECTOR

Sage Petahtegoose is the Director and Writer of Biskawbiyung. Sage is Ojibwe-Anishinaabe from Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, a reserve near Sudbury, Ontario. She uses her culture as inspiration for much of her writing and creating, and has hopes to continue to seek ways to infuse her work with traditional stories of her people. Sage aspires to continue with Directing and Writing, and to produce indigenous media content. She is a graduate of the Film and Television Production Program at Humber College.

KANISHKA SHABAN

DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Kanishka Shaban is the director of photography of Biskawbyung and a graduate of the film and television program at Humber College. He’s been exposed to the behind the scenes of film from a very young age due to his father being involved in the industry as well. Kanishka aspires to become a feature film writer and director one day, and has thus far written a studio drama and has produced another studio drama. He’s directed a variety of short films, and hopes to breakout into the industry by making more short films.

ANDRÉ JACKSON

SOUND RECORDIST

Having worked on other productions as a camera operator, video editor, and even actor, this was Andre's first time working as a sound recordist. Embarking on this new adventure was daunting at first for Andre, however he was able to develop a newfound love for his new role. Working extensively with the subjects to make sure their mic's were always capturing the best sound, hunting and capturing captivating wild noises, and being able to mix them all together at the end during the editing process were all the ways Andre was able to feel fulfilled in his position. 

LAITH SHMAISANI

ASSISTANT EDITOR

Laith Shmaisani has taken a liking to the art of film from a very young age. As he grew up he found his place in the film industry to be involved with the art of visuals mostly. He has a good eye for cutting and technical skills come to him easily as he grows and learns. His part in Biskawbiyung has been as the assistant editor to Joanna Su, he continues to further into the industry learning all about directing cinematography and expanding his knowledge in post-production specifically in areas of Colour Correction, Assistant Editing, and Picture Editing.

KATE ELLIS

PRODUCER

Kate Ellis is the Producer of Biskawbiyung. She was born in Ottawa and moved to Toronto in 2015 to follow her filmmaking passion. After studying Journalism and working in the field, she realized that journalism wasn't the right medium for her to the tell stories she wanted to. Her love for writing scripts and making films lead her to Humber College to study in the Film and Television Production program where she graduated in 2018. She hopes to continue a career in producing, writing, and directing.

DEVON SHADDICK

CAMERA OPERATOR

Born in Toronto, Canada, Devon Shaddick has had a passion for storytelling from a young age. From plays to short fiction and poetry, Devon experimented with a variety of artistic mediums growing up before finding a love for photography and film making while in high school. Since then his passion for cinema and bring unique stories to a wider audience has only grown. He is pursuing a career in lighting and camerawork and is a graduate of film and television at Humber College.

JOANNA SU

EDITOR

Joanna Su is the editor for The Return Documentary. She is a graduate of Film and TV Production program at Humber College. Although editing is not the field of film that Joanna initially saw herself in, she decided to open herself up more to learn new things. Through this, she has discovered both an interest and a talent for editing. Joanna looks forward to pursuing editing as one option for her future in film.

TRISTAN WHALEN-HUGHES

MUSIC COMPOSER

Tristan Whalen-Hughes is an active performer and teacher across Canada’s National Capital Region. He is the Director of The Ottawa Brass Initiative and plays regularly with several other ensembles, in addition to running his own private music studio and leading workshops at local schools. Tristan holds a Bachelor of Music degree in tuba from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Music degree in Performance from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
